2016 Kia Optima SX Limited – Such an Attention Hog

The 2016 Kia Optima SX Limited is a redesign for Kia that turns this regular sedan into a family car that folks will swoon over. A bold new facade coupled with a roomy interior complete with lots of advanced technology makes for a winner with most families. Let’s take a closer look at particulars.

The new grill is a forceful eye-catcher offering a branding statement that pleases. Throw in some sleek new headlights and some could argue that this Kia is an attention hog. Curvy enough to offer appeal across the genders and aerodynamically fashioned for optimal performance hugging curves and showing off…this car is actually more than functional…it’s fun to drive!

Multiple trim levels offer something for everyone and every budget. The SX Limited (which is what I tested) is loaded with features and amenities. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Optima SX offered heated seats throughout the five-passenger vehicle, a premium sound package by Harman Kardon, power lumbar supports in the front seats, LED lighting (interior) and advanced technology at your fingertips. Bluetooth connectivity? Check!

It’s safe to say that this contender in the midsize sedan category is loaded with safety features from airbags to lane departure warning and front collision mitigation/automatic braking. Convenience is thoughtfully honored with things like an eight-inch touchscreen display and steering wheel mounted controls for regular tuning of the radio or cruise control.

Fuel economy is good at 22 city and 32 highway on the 2.0-liter engine and the base price is only $22,140, but for the SX Limited it’s more like $36,040…well worth it for the luxury-like amenities, quilted leather seats and noticeably smoother (and quieter) ride than previous years.

My overall impression for the 2016 Kia Optima SX Limited is good. I’ve watched this manufacturer rise up each year with steady improvement and a loyal following is now ensuing. Don’t take my word for it. Head out to your dealership and take one for a spin.

I was allowed to drive each vehicle for a week with a tank of gas provided by Kia. No compensation was received and reviews are my own opinions. Photos are courtesy of Kia Motors.
